A daughter, A son;

A sister, A brother;

A student, A friend;

A niece, A nephew;

An aunt, An uncle;

A wife, A husband;

A mother, A father…

The various hats worn by an individual.

These are the bars of the cage

that holds you in;

These are the rings of the chain

that ties you down;

These are the threads of the net

that restrains your flight…

These are the tags

that describe not what you are,

Rather, what you should be.

These are the tags

that give you dead-weight responsibilities.

These are the tags

that birth all the expectations.

These are the tags

that influence the decisions you make.

These are the tags

that kill the individual in you!

Let’s forget the tags for a while

And let go of all the expectations;

Let’s unlayer the tags

And  try to see the individual buried behind;

Let’s forgive the individual

Who is bound to make mistakes

just like you and me.

Let us liberate the spirit

from all the bitterness.

Let the path be shown by free soul…

  2. I am impressed by what I have seen and read. Keep at it and let it touch many even as the 'Kadukusuma' which spreads its fragrance everywhere.

  3. Hello dear

    Sorry... I could manage to go through this poem only now. I had to fulfill the duties assigned to me by my 'tags!'
    A Well-written poem. Hat's off to your unique thought process. Rousseau was right when he said " Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains". Many a time, we sacrifice our aims and aspirations to fulfill the duties and responsibilities assigned to us by these tags. Especially, this is true to the core in the case of women. This concept of 'Tags' can also be extended further to include caste, class, colour, sect, race, religion etc. which limit man from exploring the infinite capabilities to the fullest.
